We have two Pre-K classes. Sycamores and Redwwods provide social, emotional, and academic enrichment, which prepares a child for the rigors of Kindergarten. A sturdy foundation of social and emotional competence enables a child to advocate for himself, take responsibility for his own behavior, and experience and express empathy. These skills are essential building blocks for the academic standards and expectations of Kindergarten.

When a child exhibits 'young behavior', when she is unable to engage in circle time, when she is easily distracted and shies away from fine motor tasks, it may indicate that she is not ready for Kindergarten. Parents sometimes believe an additional year of preschool will give their child an opportunity to mature and polish their readiness skills. In that case, the Sycamore student would simply transfer to Redwoods, and vice versa, for the following year.

Both the Redwood and Sycamore classes prepare children for Kindergarten; they both

• emphasize social skills
• early reading preparedness,
• fine motor skill development and practice
• gross motor activities
• an awareness that God loves me no matter what
